Was born 1952 in Karlsruhe. He studied composition with Eugen Werner Velte at the Musikhochschule Karlsruhe with Karlheinz Stockhausen, Wolfgang Fortner, Humphrey Searle and Klaus Huber. He experienced his internationally acclaimed breakthrough as early as 1974 at the Donaueschinger Musiktage. Since 1978 he is lecturer at the Darmstädter Ferienkurse and since 1985, Professor at the Musikhochschule Karlsruhe. Wolfgang Rihm is one of the most successful composers of our time: Ernst von Siemens Music Award 2003. He lives in Karlsruhe and Berlin.
