Clemens Gadenstätter (born 1966, Zell am See/Salzburg) studied composition with Erich Urbanner (University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna) and Helmut Lachenmann (1992-1995, University of Music and Perfroming Arts Stuttgart) as well as flute at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. In 2003 Gadenstätter was appointed as professor for music theory, analysis and composition at the University of Music in Graz. In his recent work he has developed a particular interest in triviality (Semantical Investigations 1&2 and the essay What does banal really mean?), in the polymodality of listening (platzen/bersten, häuten/schlitzen, ES – minimal opera for voice, video and ensemble), and in music iconography (ICONOSONICS 1-3).
