Recording Date:
Recording Venue:

Matthias Pintscher, who shot to international fame at an early age, regards his success simply as a reason for paying ever more precise and critical attention while listening to the musical figures he creates. "La musique, virement des gouffres et choc des glacons aux astres" ('Music, turning towards the vortex and the impact of icebergs in the stars') - these lines by Arthur Rimbaud, which are printed at the top of the orchestral piece Choc. Antiphonen für grosses Ensemble, provide a key to Pintscher's work. The nocturnal side of reason is the subject of the suite derived from a piece of music theatre entitled Thomas Chatterton, while the Fünf Orchester-stücke show how Pintscher compacts his sound images into a vocabulary for pursuing what Arnold Schönberg referred to as "the instinctual life of sounds".
