Our latest release, MATTHIAS PINTSCHER - sonic eclipse has just arrived at our office. Marisol Montalvo, Gareth Flowers, David Byrd-Marrow, ICE and the SWR Vokalensemble are performing sonic eclipse, a twilight's song and she-cholat ahavah ani. Marcus Creed as well as Matthias Pintscher are the conductors of this record. Avalaible in stores worldwide in June and starting from now in our Online-Shop. In the three-part ensemble cycle sonic eclipse, the theme of the compositional process is auditory masking as a step-by-step process of concealment. In search of a metaphor for this process, Pintscher hit upon the phenomenon of the eclipse—in which celestial bodies overlap and cast their shadows upon one another at the moment of complete coverage. From twilight to twilight and from morning to evening is the range spanned by a twilight’s song and the E.E.Cummings poem upon which it is based. Pintscher composes the “in-between”, a penetration of the poem’s inflection and structure; the pictorial language is re-sketched. An instrumental ensemble placed at a considerable distance to one another begins with nearly inaudible whispering and proceeds to conjure up an incipient sonic space consisting of heterogeneous events. For Matthias Pintscher, the shir ha shirim (song of songs) is “a supremely condensed compendium of nearly boundless emotional states. All its sections give the impression of having neither beginning, nor end, nor middle, simply being modes of expression that circle one another.” It is from the fifth song that the Pintscher took the text for his a cappella piece. The words “she-cholat ahavah ani” translate as “how lovesick am I”, and for the composer this is a core sentence which sums up the topic of the love song. Not only in terms of content, but also structurally, the famous Hebrew text opens up very special perspectives. (Marie Luise Maintz) |

Die neue Matthias Pintscher Portait CD vereint den dreiteiligen Ensemblezyklus sonic eclipse, die Vertonung eines Gedichts von E. E. Cummings für Sopran und kleines Ensemble: a twilight’s song. Sowie eine Vertonung eines Gesanges aus dem shir ha-shirim, dem biblischen Lied der Lieder: she-cholat ahavah ani. In sonic eclipse wird das Verdecken zum Thema des kompositorischen Prozesses. Als Bild für diesen Vorgang fand Pintscher das Phänomen der Eklipse, also des Übereinanderschiebens von Himmelskörpern und der gegenseitigen Verdunkelung im Moment der vollständigen Abdeckung. Auf der Website findet sich ein kurzes Hörbeispiel. Von Dämmerung zu Dämmerung, Morgen zu Abend, spannt sich der Bogen in a twilight’s song und dem zugrundeliegenden Gedicht von Cummings. Pintscher komponiert das „Dazwischen“, ein Eindringen in Tonfall und Struktur der Dichtung, er zeichnet die Bildsprache des Poems nach. Aus dem shir ha shirim, dem biblischen Lied der Lieder, hat Pintscher den fünften Gesang, she-cholat ahavah ani für eine A-Cappella-Chor vertont. Nicht nur inhaltlich, sondern auch strukturell eröffnet der berühmte hebräische Text besondere Perspektiven. Pintscher verwandelt den Gesang in einen ausschließlich gesungenen Vokalsatz - in ein klingendes Kontinuum. (Marie Luise Maintz) |
