Peter Hirsch
Peter Hirsch carried out his studies in Köln and, on their conclusion, took up the position of assistant to Michael Gielen at the Oper Frankfurt, where – between 1984 and 1987 – he also practised as Principal Assistant Conductor. 1985 saw his debut at La Scala in Milan with Prometeo by Luigi Nono and in the following year he directed the first performances of Stephen Climax by Hans Zender and Risonanze erranti, also by Luigi Nono. Subsequently, he has gone on to conduct a substantial number of opera production at the English National Opera, Scottish Opera and De Nederlandse Opera in Amsterdam as well as at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin. In parallel with this he has performed as guest conductor in the United States, Holland and Belgium. He works regularly with, among others, the Symphoniker and the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester in Berlin, the SWR Sinfonieorchester Baden-Baden und Freiburg (and those in Frankfurt and Stuttgart too), the orchestra at the Oper Leipzig and the Münchner Philharmoniker, with which last orchestra he conducted the première in 2005 of the posthumous work of Luigi Nono, the Fucik fragments – a score edited by Hirsch himself. As a guest conductor Hirsch works frequently with ensemble recherche, Klangforum Wien, the Ensemble Contrechamps from Geneva and the Collegium Novum from Zurich. His many recordings include titles devoted to music by Schubert, Bruckner, Mahler, Schoenberg, B. A. Zimmermann and Nono; his interpretation of the early works for orchestra of B. A. Zimmermann figured strongly in the list of the most sold CDs in Germany, as did the recording of Nono’s Prometeo. Hirsch has directed a large number of world premières, among which can be particularly mentioned works by B. A. Zimmermann, Luigi Nono, Helmut Lachenmann, Hans Zender, Georg-Friedrich Haas and Klaus Ospald. |
