Piia Komsi
Finnish soprano Piia Komsi began as a cellist and played in the Avanti! Chamber Orchestra and Finnish National Opera Orchestra before graduating from the Sibelius Academy opera department in Helsinki. Her breakthrough in Thomas Adès’s opera Powder her Face at the 1999 Helsinki Musica Nova Festival led to an engagement by the Finnish National Opera. Many composers have written works specially for her exceptionally flexible, high voice and her facility in performing new music, but she has also had notable success in music of the Baroque. She has appeared as soloist with the BBC, London, North German (NDR) and Finnish Radio Symphony orchestras, Ensemble Modern, Avanti! and the Ensemble intercontemporain. |
