François-Xavier Roth www.francoisxavierroth.fr François-Xavier Roth is one of the most charismatic and enterprising conductors of his generation. He is the designated Principal Conductor of the SWR Sinfonieorchester Baden-Baden und Freiburg (from 2011/12) and holds the position of Associate Guest Conductor of the BBC National Orchestra of Wales. He also has special relationships with and regularly conducts the London Symphony Orchestra, Ensemble intercontemporain and the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France. His repertoire ranges from 17th-century to contemporary music and encompasses all genres: symphonic, operatic and chamber. In 2003, he founded the innovative orchestra Les Siècles, which performs contrasting and colourful programmes on modern and original instruments as appropriate, often within the same concert. With Les Siècles, he has given concerts in France, Italy, Germany England and Japan and was awarded a Diapason Découverte for their CD of Bizet and Chabrier, recorded for Mirare. Most recently, on their newly created label Les Siècles Live, he has released Berlioz’ Symphonie Fantastique on CD, recorded live at the Festival Berlioz at La Cóte Saint-André. The second release on this label is dedicated to Saint-Saëns, including his third symphony, recorded using the famous Cavaillé-Coll organ at Église de St Suplice in Paris. For television, they devised their own series entitled Presto, which attracted a weekly audience of 4 million on average during its three-year run. Highlights of the current season include concerts with the London Symphony Orchestra, SWR Sinfonie-Orchester Baden-Baden und Freiburg, the Ensemble intercontemporain, the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Gulbenkian Orchestra, the Munich Chamber Orchestra, a Prom with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and concerts with Les Siècles in Germany, Italy and France. Equally committed to the world of opera, his productions of Ambroise Thomas’ Mignon at the Opera Comique in Paris and appearances with Offenbach’s Contes d’ Hoffmann at these Komische Oper Berlin have received critical acclaim. Future seasons will see Roth return with performances of Offenbach’s Les Brigands, Mozart Idomeneo and Giraud’s Caravaggio. François-Xavier Roth is a graduate of the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique, where he studied with Alain Marion and Janos Fürst. He was the winner of the Donatella Flick Conducting Competition (2000) in London and served as Assistant Conductor of the LSO for two years. Ein besonderes Verhältnis und regelmäßige Zusammenarbeit verbinden ihn mit dem London Symphony Orchestra, dem Ensemble intercontemporain und dem Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France. Sein Repertoire reicht von der Musik des 17. Jahrhunderts bis zu zeitgenössischen Werken und umfasst alle Bereiche: Sinfonien, Opern, Kammermusik. 2003 gründete er das innovative Orchester „Les Siècles“, das sehr kontrast- und abwechslungsreiche Programme auf – entsprechend der jeweiligen Anforderungen - modernen wie Originalinstrumenten oft innerhalb eines Konzertes spielt. Tourneen mit Les Siècles führten ihn nach Frankreich, Italien, Deutschland, England und Japan, die mit ihnen bei Mirare eingespielte CD mit Werken von Bizet und Chabrier wurde mit einem „Diapason Découverte“ ausgezeichnet. Vor kurzem brachte er unter ihrem neu gegründeten Label „Les Siècles Live“ Berlioz Symphonie Fantastique als Live-Aufnahme vom Berlioz – Festival in La Côte Saint-André auf CD heraus. Die zweite CD des Labels ist Saint-Saëns gewidmet, zu hören ist darauf auch die Dritte Sinfonie mit der berühmten Cavaillé-Coll Orgel aus der Kirche von Saint-Sulpice in Paris. Im Fernsehen zogen Roth und das Orchester mit der von ihnen gestalteten Serie „Presto“ während der dreijährigen Laufzeit jede Woche durchschnittlich 4 Millionen Zuseher an. Höhepunkte der aktuellen Saison sind Konzerte mit dem London Symphony Orchestra, dem SWR Sinfonieorchester Baden-Baden und Freiburg, dem Ensemble intercontemporain, dem Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, dem Gulbenkian Orchester, dem Münchener Kammerorchester sowie ein Proms-Konzert mit dem BBC National Orchestra of Wales und Konzerte mit Les Siècles in Deutschland, Italien und Frankreich. Mit dem gleichen Engagement widmet Roth sich auch der Oper. Seine Produktionen von Ambroise Thomas Mignon an der Opéra Comique in Paris und die Aufführungen von Offenbachs Hoffmanns Erzählungen an der Komischen Oper in Berlin wurden von der Kritik hoch gelobt. In den kommenden Saisonen wird er mit Offenbachs Banditen, Mozarts Idomeneo und Girauds Caravaggio zu erleben sein. François-Xavier Roth absolvierte das Conservatoire National Supérieure de Musique, wo er bei Alain Marion und Janos Fürst studierte. Er gewann den Donatella Flick Dirigentenwettbewerb (2000) in London und wurde daraufhin zwei Jahre lang Chefassistent beim London Symphony Orchestra. |
