JESÚS RUEDA (*1961) “Very attractive music”, were the words which the Financial Times described the music of Jesús Rueda (Madrid, 1961). He was the winner of the Premio Nacional de Música, as granted by the Ministerio de Cultura of Spain, in 2004; by that date Rueda had composed three symphonies, three string quartets, three chamber concertos, one opera (Fragmento de Orfeo, commissioned by the Biennale di Venecia) and a large number of works for solo instruments and other formations, together confirming his as one of the leading characters of Spanish music at this stage of the 21st century. The music of Jesús Rueda is performed, on a regular basis, by orchestras, ensembles and musicians of high standing and reputation from all over the world, such as Gianandrea Noseda, James MacMillan, Ananda Sukarlan, the Arditti Quartet, the percussion group Drumming Oporto and many others. He has been resident composer with the Joven Orquesta Nacional de España (JONDE) and currently carries out the same role for the Orquesta de Cadaqués, whose honorary president and principal guest conductor, Sir Neville Marriner, commissioned from him Elephant Skin, for orchestra. Rueda is a founder member of Música Presente, a group of composers and performers, which has been dubbed the ‘Dream Team’ of contemporary music. He is a composition teacher at the Conservatorio Superior de Música of Zaragoza and artistic director of the prestigious international Reina Sofía composition prize of the Fundación Ferrer-Salat. At the moment he is also working on his fourth Symphony and on his Fourth String Quartet, the latter set to last for over an hour. Zu diesem Zeitpunkt hatte Rueda bereits drei Symphonien, drei Streichquartette, drei Kammerkonzerte, eine Oper (Fragmento de Orfeo, ein Auftragswerk für die Biennale von Venedig) und eine große Anzahl an Werken für Soloinstrumente und andere Formationen komponiert und sich durch diese Werke als einer der führenden Vertreter der spanischen Musik jenes Teils des 21. Jahrhunderts etabliert. Die Musik Jesús Ruedas wird regelmäßig von anerkannten und namhaften Orchestern, Ensembles und Musikern aus aller Welt aufgeführt. Zu ihnen zählen Gianandrea Noseda, James McMillan, Ananda Sukarlan, das Arditti Quartet, die Percussion Gruppe Drumming Oporto und vielen andere. Er war Hauskomponist des Joven Orquesta Nacional de España (JONDE) und ist zurzeit Hauskomponist des Orquesta de Cadaqués, von dessen Ehrenpräsident und wichtigsten Gastdirigenten, Sir Neville Marriner, Rueda den Auftrag für Elephant Skin für Orchester erhielt. Rueda ist Gründungsmitglied von Música Presente, einer Gruppe von Komponisten und Darstellern, die auch als „Dream Team“ der zeitgenössischen Musik bezeichnet wurde. Er lehrt Komposition am Conservatorio Superior de Música in Zaragoza und ist künstlerischer Leiter des renommierten internationalen Reina Sofía Wettbewerbs für Komposition der Ferrer-Salat Stiftung. Derzeit arbeitet er an seiner vierten Symphonie sowie an seinem vierten Streichquartett, welches eine Länge von über einer Stunde haben soll. |
